Severstal Metiz Tests New Robot at Production Site
Its main functions are the transportation of materials, patrolling featuring automatic recharging at a charg-ing station, monitoring of the equipment condition using gas analyzers, thermal imaging cameras, etc., and detection using computer vision. “Today, many industrial enterprises are actively transforming their workflows to increase the automation and reduce routine tasks for the personnel. We continue exploring the ways to use mobile robots for mov-ing lightweight goods in hard-to-reach areas of the Severstal-metiz’s production site. Implementing such equipment will eliminate the need for people to enter hazardous areas, boost labor efficiency by reallocat-ing repetitive tasks, and help to avoid related transfer and rearrangement operations,” explained Sergei Kovryakov, the CEO of Severstal-metiz. The trial was jointly conducted by experts from Severstal Infocom and Severstal-metiz and the supplier’s representatives. The specialists assessed the rover's mobility, compliance with preset routes and algo-rithms, level of autonomy and safety. They also assessed the radio beacon system that enables the locali-zation of the platform for autonomous navigation even with unstable network connection. The experts will make a decision on the integration of this type of rovers in the production process based on the analysis of the data collected during the trial period.
