Severstal-metiz Successfully Launches Production of Heat Treated Steel Bars for Machinery Manufacturing
The new product is in demand among manufacturers of parts that operate under high torsional loads and require high reliability and durability. The heat-treatment process is used to obtain these properties. Due to intensive cooling, quenching and subsequent tempering, their strength properties double, yield strength becomes threefold higher, and plastic properties and impact strength improve. "Severstal-metiz is ready to offer machinery companies a unique product that will allow them to make finished parts in a single operation and reduce their production costs by cutting out the quenching and tempering processes, eliminating stocked semi-finished products and decreasing the rejection rate. At the customer's request, we can supply structural alloy steel bars of 30 mm to 50 mm in diameter, with through quenching and uniform mechanical properties across the entire cross-section," says Sergey Kovryakov, the CEO of Severstal-metiz. Using pre-heat-treated steel bars will help to exclude an additional operation of heat treatment for finished parts and prevent possible defects such as quench deformation and buckling, surface oxidation and decarburization, and cracking.
